eBay EIS Program Controversy: Sellers Concerned about Forced International Shipping
eBay Launches eBay International Shipping (EIS)
eBay has recently introduced a new international shipping program called eBay International Shipping (EIS), replacing the Global Shipping Program. However, the EIS program has drawn criticism from some sellers who feel forced to ship internationally and cannot opt out of certain items on a listing-by-listing basis.
Main Issue: Sellers' Frustration over eBay Forcing International Shipping
Currently, sellers can only turn off the EIS eBay program at the account level, and not at the listing level, causing frustration among sellers who do not want to ship specific items internationally. One seller stated, "Sellers should be able to turn off select listings from international shipping for whatever the seller has for their reason. This equals eBay forcing sellers to ship internationally, and it simply should not be that way. We have the right to decide."
eBay's Response: Filters and Updates to eBay EIS Program
In response, an eBay moderator explained that filters have been implemented to restrict the shipping of certain items, such as restricted, prohibited, oversized, or branded items, in order to comply with international export regulations. The moderator also stated that eBay is working on updating the removal of EIS at a listing level.
Concerns about Delivery Times in the eBay EIS Program
Another seller raised concerns about the delivery times of items sent through the EIS latest news program, stating that it seems to take longer than other eBay programs. eBay responded that transit times are currently in line with other eBay programs and that they are working to add additional international carriers to improve transit times.
Expanding the EIS Program: New Hub Location and Future Plans
During the eBay-hosted chat session, eBay also revealed that they are opening a second hub location in Los Angeles in April and evaluating other locations for expansion. While eBay stated that the new EIS program is designed to provide the best value for buyers and sellers, some sellers are still concerned about the lack of flexibility in opting out of certain items for international shipping. However, eBay continues to work on improving the program and addressing seller concerns.
